BIG NEWS FOR BSC FANS!!! A PREQUEL AND A REISSUE OF THE SERIES ARE COMING IN JUST A FEW MONTHS!!!
Okay, so this news is a little old hat. But they're starting to do press on it, so it's starting to get exciting! I just had to share my feelings about it with you guys.
Regarding the prequel:
- Personally, I think it's awesome! The premise is, of course, to see what life is like for the girls before Kristy invents the BSC.
- I like this idea better than a sequel, actually. I have very specific ideas as to what the girls end up doing, and having something else might ruin it for me, especially if I don't agree with it.
- I'm looking forward seeing Mimi again! And Louie!
- Stacey in NYC again will be cool. Some people don't like the idea of this because we've seen her pre-Stoneybrook in the Baby-sitters Remember/Stacey's Portrait books, but this will give us a more in-depth look.
- I am sooo curious about Kristy's plot. I wonder how much of a role Watson will play, whether more light will be shed on Patrick's leaving the family, etc. I think I'm looking forward to her story the most.
- Mary Anne & Richard: I think their story will be sad. They lead very quiet, sad and seperate lives before Mary Anne stood up to him, and reverting to that time frame will be quite interesting.
- No Dawn, Mallory or Jessi. That's too bad, but Dawn's story is really the only one I'd care about, and we already saw it in Baby-sitters Remember, so it would be a moot point.
Regarding the Reissue:
- A lot of people seem to think that the reissue will involve major character changes and massive cuts to the books. I don't see it this way. To me, reissue means re-publishing the books. The articles states there will be small updates to the series to bring it up to the right decade, so I think that's all the changes we'll see. Case in point: this article, while amusing, totally has the wrong idea!!!
- I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I think bringing the BSC to a new generation is fantastic. On the other hand, part of why I love these books so much is the nostalgia factor. I grew up with the books. I love them just the way they are. If big changes are to be made, it might take away from the series' charm.
Overall, I'm really excited. I can't wait to get my hands on that prequel!!!
